Welcome to the winter edition of Stradbroke Weddings' newsletter.

This season on the Island, we welcome the return of the whales with over 600 sightings to date.

We have had many beautiful weddings recently, from marquees on the headland and beaches to small, intimate gatherings in private homes.

We are happy to report that our database of private homes renting exclusively to Stradbroke Weddings for events is continuing to expand.

Umbrellas to the rescue!

On a recent rainy weekend, Stradbroke Weddings came to the rescue of four brides who took advantage of our large white golf umbrellas. Whilst these are available to hire to the general public, if Stradbroke Weddings is coordinating your ceremony and should the need arise, we will be on site with enough umbrellas for you and all your guests to use.

Thankfully, our brides were able to go ahead with their weddings out of doors with a little shade from our umbrellas – and they look great in photos too!

Now entering its fourth year of operation, Stradbroke Weddings aims for excellence in customer service and product quality and according to our clients, we’re reaching that goal.

Stradbroke Weddings was recently awarded winner for the category of Best General Tourism Services in the 2005 Redlands on Moreton Bay Tourism Awards. Redlands Mayor, Mr. Don Seccombe, presented Director, Jeannie Sheppard with the award at a ceremony at Siromet Winery. This award was presented to Stradbroke Weddings to acknowledge achievement in promoting North Stradbroke Island as a unique wedding destination to couples not only from Southeast Queensland, but from all over the world.

In a lavish awards ceremony held in Brisbane and attended by bridal industry representatives from all over Queensland, Stradbroke Weddings was awarded Best Independent Wedding Consultant from a field of nominees and finalists across Queensland. This award, voted for by clients throughout the year, celebrates excellence in the fields of product quality, service quality, value for money and overall satisfaction where Stradbroke Weddings scored a phenomenal 99.5%! Always striving for the best for our clients, we are committed to achieving 100% throughout the coming year.

Stradbroke Weddings staff are committed to protecting the Island’s beautiful, natural environment. After all, apart from calling this particular corner of the planet our home, we know that the natural assets of the Island are what draws couples to marry here. Stradbroke Weddings has recently become an affiliate of theinternational green organisation Green Globe. Environmental benchmarking of Stradbroke Weddings is currently being undertaken with accreditation expected in the near future.

In order to keep the Island pristine, we all need to contribute and there are many simple ways to ensure your celebration has minimal impact on the environment. Handy hints and suggestions on environmental care are outlined for our clients and their guests in a complimentary invitation inclusion, which Stradbroke Weddings staff individually tailor and send to each client.

Some of those hints include:

Avoiding the use of balloons – these pose a serious hazard to marine life.

Paper confetti is never used at our events – we suggest and are happy to provide beautiful fresh or dried flower petals for your guests to throw. Ask us about our parchment confetti cones with your inscription, coloured to match your event and packaged attractively for your ceremony.

Stradbroke Weddings also offers clients a comprehensive wrap up and clean up service where the reception site is thoroughly cleaned of all rubbish and checked twice to ensure all cigarette butts, papers, bottles tops, etc have been removed.

Celebrity Weddings...

Lilies, lotus pods and greenery feature in a beautiful combination.

Stradbroke Weddings has recently assisted with two celebrity weddings. Television journalist, Victoria Carthew and singer/ songwriter, Katie Noonan from the band, George, engaged Stradbroke Weddings to assist them with plans to marry their fiancés on Stradbroke Island.

Victoria married in a beautiful ceremony overlooking Deadman’s beach with a reception following at the Little Ship Club. Victoria’s wedding theme was a ‘Festival of food and wine’. You can read more about Victoria’s wedding by visiting the Queensland Brides website.

Katie married in a ceremony in South Gorge followed by reception in a stunning private home. Stradbroke Weddings assisted Katie with most aspects of the organisation of her wedding as well as coordination on the day and decorations. Simple, tropical themes of bamboo, lotus pods, willow and lilies were chosen for the ceremony and cocktail style reception.

Stradbroke Weddings is pleased to announce that the Point Lookout Surf Lifesavers Club is now back on line again for functions on weekends from May to September (barring lifesaving events) and on week days during the summer months.
